James Calvin Craver settled the area in 1877 and opened the Bay St. Joseph post office and store in 1878; the settlement was renamed Ozona in 1879, and what's now Old Downtown Palm Harbor was platted in 1888 under the name Sutherland, before the whole area took the Palm Harbor name in 1925.
